Mentor Testimonials

“My mentoring journey started about 6 years ago, shortly after my only child graduated from High School. I’ve always been someone who has volunteered in one capacity or another, but saw that time in my life as the perfect opportunity to get a little more involved and make more of a difference. Since then, I’ve mentored several different kids, and each experience has been both fun and fulfilling in its own way. I would definitely recommend it to other “Empty Nesters” (and I do, all the time!) as something to help fill up some of that extra time you find that you have now, and a new direction to take that will make a huge difference in the life of a young boy or girl!”

“Being part of the Outagamie County Mentoring Program has been such a meaningful experience for me. From the very beginning, I could tell this wasn’t just another program—it’s a group of people who truly care about building strong relationships and making a difference.”

As a participant, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it can be to simply have someone there to listen, encourage, and believe in you. The mentors are down-to-earth, patient, and genuinely invested in helping young people succeed. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about showing up, being consistent, and creating a safe space where kids feel supported.

The staff have also been incredible. They check in, offer guidance, and make sure that everyone involved feels connected and supported along the way. It really feels like a team effort, and that makes all the difference.

Looking back, I can honestly say the program has changed my life for the better. The growth, confidence, and trust that come out of these mentoring relationships are hard to put into words. It’s not just about now—it’s about shaping a brighter future.

I’m so grateful to be part of this program, and I’d recommend it to anyone—whether you’re a young person looking for guidance or an adult who wants to make a real difference in someone’s life. This isn’t just mentoring—it’s family.”

“Over the past 30 years I have mentored through several different agencies. My favorite has been Outagamie County's program. They did a great job of pairing me with mentees that share my interests. The program is more flexible and has less burdensome reporting, which makes it easier to maintain relationships with mentees.”

“My mentor has been there for me no matter what. You came into my life at a time when I needed a guiding hand. You became my mentor and more, and you also became my best friend.

You were patient and showed me how to trust my own instincts and my work, and you were my biggest cheerleader when any doubts      or fears tried to lurk. Some days were tough to get through but you helped me push through it. You helped me dig deep inside myself to bring out the best that I can be.

You challenge me in so many ways. You let me know you believe in me. Thank you for becoming my mentor, you really help me learn and grow. You have been the world’s best mentor, someone I am so happy to know.”
