Find an Existing Survey of Your Property

Not all properties have a survey. If a property is in a subdivision, the Register of Deeds has a copy of that Subdivision. To check whether a survey exists for a specific property, follow these steps:

1. Go to the County PLSS GIS Map.

2. Zoom to the property location and click the parcel.

3. Select the tab "View Plat of Survey Documents". Then, check the list for the property.

When to Have Your Property Surveyed

You may want a property survey when you buy a property to confirm boundary lines and mark (monument) corners. A survey is also useful if:

  • A neighbor disputes the lot line.
  • You plan to build near a property line (e.g., a fence) and need accurate corner and line locations to avoid encroaching on a neighbor's property.
