Outagamie County Mentoring Program

All of the kids in our program are between the ages of 6 and 17 and have been referred by an Outagamie County social worker. Our goal is to reach the kids in the community who need us the most!

Unfortunately, no. Our program is exclusively for kids who have been referred by their county social workers. If your family is working with an Outagamie County child welfare or youth justice social worker, you can ask them about making a referral. 

Yes! The Outagamie County Mentoring Program is 100% voluntary. Both the child and their parent want a mentor in the child’s life. 

Volunteer mentors must be at least 18 years of age and have reliable transportation and auto insurance. Applicants must also pass a criminal background check and provide three references.

No! You will be provided with all the training and support you need to have a successful match. 

We value your input! We will talk to you about mentees on our waiting list and make sure we find a good fit for you. Together, we will consider things like personalities, common interests, the child’s needs, geographic location and age range to make the best match possible. 

Mentors meet a minimum of 4 hours each month with their mentee.  Meeting weekly is ideal but meeting every other week is also acceptable. 

Activities vary based the interests of the mentor and mentee. Some common match activities include arts/crafts, baking/cooking, sports, building projects, walks/hikes, local community events, board games, cards, library visits, fishing, bowling, etc.  

In addition to one-on-one activities, mentor matches are also invited to group outings throughout the year.

While some of our matches develop into lifelong friendships, the expectation is that mentors will commit to a minimum of 6 months of mentoring. 

You can bring your mentee to your home. You may also choose to do activities in the community if you prefer not to meet in your home. 

Note: All mentor applicants are required to complete a home interview prior to being matched.  

Yes! We have many couples that have mentored together. You and your spouse may mentor one child together or each have your own mentee.
