FAQ

Is providing transportation required?

Volunteers and workers often transport the children and/or parents to and from the visit. Mileage is reimbursed at the federal rate. You are not required to provide transportation.

What insurance is used?

The driver’s insurance is primary and the volunteer must carry the minimum auto liability coverage. The county’s insurance is secondary. Insurance coverage is also available to RSVP volunteers. Please refer to the handbook for more details.

What paperwork is required?

The coordinator must receive a monthly mileage log and monthly time log by the seventh of the next month. In addition, you will need to take notes during the visit and send a copy to the coordinator and social worker. You will be provided with what information the worker is looking for in the report.

Is training offered?

Yes - there is a training that addresses documentation, guidelines and expectations of visits, and safety. The volunteer will also shadow a worker during a visit. The number of shadowing opportunities is determined by the volunteer and worker to make sure the volunteer is comfortable doing a visit independently.

What is the schedule?

We look to find a case that matches your availability. Once the case is assigned, the schedule is consistent. You can choose how frequently you want to supervise – once a week or more often. Most cases are weekly and some may have additional days during the week. During the school year, many visits need to be scheduled after 3:30.

What impact do the supervisors have?

In 2025...

... supervisors helped 12 families stay connected

... supervisors drove over 26,000 miles to bring children and family members together

... supervisors volunteered over 1,000 hours to reconnect families

... supervisors provided an ROI of over $34,000 dollars

The cost to the county would have been much higher if the workers has to do all the visits and transportation themselves.
