One Volunteer Can Make a Big Difference

Sometimes, one person can change someone’s whole day.

It could be a volunteer who gives someone a ride to an important appointment. It could be a mentor who listens and helps a child feel more confident. It could be a volunteer who helps a family get school supplies, holiday gifts, or basic household items during a hard time. It could also be someone at a meal site who serves food and takes time to listen.

These actions may seem small, but they can mean everything to someone in need.

During National Volunteer Week, Outagamie County is recognizing and thanking the people who give their time to help others. Volunteers bring hope, support, and connection to people across our community every day.

This message feels especially important this year. Over the past week, our community faced devastating floods. In that difficult time, volunteers showed up to help in big and small ways. They gave their time, energy, and care when it was needed most. They helped neighbors, supported response efforts, and reminded all of us what community truly means.

To every person who stepped forward during the flooding: thank you. We simply could not have done it without you.

Volunteers do more than help others. Volunteering also helps the people who serve. It can give people a sense of purpose. It can improve mental and physical health. It also helps people stay active and connected to their community.
