Naloxone & Fentanyl
Naloxone Training
Outagamie County Public Health has naloxone (under the brand name Narcan®) to distribute to people at risk for an opioid related overdose and people who may witness an opioid related overdose for free.
We also have staff who are trained to provide education on how to use Narcan® Nasal Spray and how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose.
If you would like to schedule a group training session for your employees, your community non-profit group, or even your neighborhood watch group, call 920-832-5100 or email PHQuestions@outagamie.org.
Fentanyl
Fentanyl is in our community.
- It is a synthetic opioid with an extremely high potency.
- It is being mixed with other drugs like methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana, cocaine, and being pressed into pills.
- A person may think they are using one substance, but they are instead using a substance mixed with fentanyl.
- Fentanyl is hard to detect. You can’t see it, taste it, or smell it. A tiny amount—as little as two grains of salt—is enough to kill someone.
Whether it is someone’s first time using or their 100th time, fentanyl can kill. In 2022 there were 1,461 deaths in Wisconsin related to opioids.

Fentanyl Test Strips
Fentanyl test strips are legal in Wisconsin.
They are an easy and useful tool to help detect fentanyl in any substance.
People are encouraged to use this drug-checking technology if they are taking any substance not purchased from a pharmacy.
