CTH N - 3rd Street to Maes Avenue and CTH N & Maes Avenue Intersection

Updated April 17, 2026

Project Description

This project consists of two segments: the first project segment begins along County N (S. Washington Street) and consists of a roadway rehabilitation project from E. Third Street to the south side of the Maes Avenue intersection and the second segment consists of intersection improvements and traffic signal upgrades at the Maes Avenue intersection. The purpose of the rehabilitation project is to address poor pavement conditions along County N including spot improvements or rehabilitation of other roadway features such as curb and gutter, storm sewer, and multi-modal features. The purpose of the intersection project is to replace an outdated traffic signal system with a system that meets current standards in order to improve safety, operations, and reliability. Spot safety improvements will also be made throughout the corridor.

Project Status

The project is currently approaching 60% design. The proposed improvement were presented to the public in March 2026. Determination of final right-of-way impacts are currently underway including the development of a right-of-way plat necessary for the additional right-of-way necessary to make improvements to sidewalk and curb ramps at some locations throughout the corridor. R/W acquisition is currently scheduled for the latter part of 2026 with construction of signal improvements and local utilities to occur in 2027 and construction or remaining roadway features and pavement rehabilitation to occur in 2028.

Traffic Impacts

County N is anticipated to be closed to through traffic during portions of the utility and pavement rehabilitation projects. Specific construction staging and detour routes are still being considered and refined. The intersection of County N & Maes Avenue is anticipated to operate as an all-way-stop controlled intersection during portions of the intersection project while replacement of the traffic signal system occurs.
